Being feline does not mean I am sly, stealthy, or treacherous. I belong to the Cat family (read Leo) and this is my strongest practical claim to adopting “feline” as a word that describes me best.
Feline also is a reflection of my feminine side – remember the cliché, “Women are Cats; Men are Dogs!” Before the misogynists bombard this blog with hate mails, and the men-bashing feminists add me on their best friends’ list, let me explain my perspective.
The cliché hurts only if you take a cynical view of the intended meaning. However, I am not a cynic and I am usually not a negative thinker, so I insist on a positive interpretation of the adage. Yes, most men are dogs – faithful, alert, obliging, strong, playful, and most dogs are handsome, and would nuzzle up to you when pampered.
Most women are cats – there is no denying that we love to gossip, and our curiosity can kill us any day; when domesticated we will not roar, and we are warm and cuddly and our eyes have an intense look of love and longing that can make your heart bleed!!!
I am a woman, I am a Cat, and I am proud of my feline traits. I can be mischievous, and amusing, or act as if I would not care less; I can have airs, sharpen my claws, and glare at you; I may just decide to give you a Cheshire cat grin, or be as playful and energetic as a kitten, or as indolent and bored as a Big Cat post-hunt. I may be too self-centered, haughty and distant, high headed and stiff-necked for your comfort; or when I am in good mood, I can be an obedient, benevolent, warm, cuddly ball of fur that you may fall in love with! The word “feline” describes me best!
And I love the word “musings.” Maybe it has something to do with my childhood fantasy of being someone’s creative muse. Oh yes, I may sound full of myself (very feline trait, indeed) but I am being honest!! I always wanted to be (and still want to be) somebody’s muse – an inspiration, an artistic rendition, a deep-felt thought, an intense reflection, and I love the Greek mythology of the 9 daughters of Zeus, the Muses, who protected and promoted art and science. I am in love with the concept of the muse and the word “musings” came very naturally to me, when I was contemplating on an appropriate title to mark my entry into the blogger’s world.
So, that is how the blog title, Feline Musings was born – a title that is feminine, romantic, and in the true sense a reflection of Me, as I know myself.
