Once upon a time …

Published on April 30, 2008

This is a story of evasion – the way I try to evade the new beginnings of each day and the way each beginning eludes its own end. It may have been the story of life, alas, only if it had an end! It is then actually a story of quest – the quest for a conclusion.

When The Fountainhead got on my nerves

Published on April 28, 2008

I self-doubted my intelligence. The world was going gaga over Ayn Rand. I was irritated by “her philosophy”. Something was really wrong with the intellectual lobe of my brain!!

The “Quick-Fix Vegetarian Brunch” menu

Published on April 24, 2008

My lunch menu and plan turned upside down at 9:30 am, with a very short notice to cater for piping hot home-made brunch (snacks). The two guests were now scheduled to arrive at 11:30 am. I was anxious and had shaky fingers and an accelerated-Ferrari-like heartbeat for some minutes. But there was no escape and I had to get-set-go with the brunch preparation.

Reading between the lines vs. Reading only the line!

A plain, simple, innocent, and not-intended-to-either-offend-or-appease Statement!

“S”uggestions to improve traffic in NCR

Published on April 20, 2008

One of them commented, “First you drive on the wrong side of the road, then you drive in the wrong side of the car, and then you drive all wrong. I am amazed at the multi-tasking skills and split-second reflexes that drivers in India possess! I have been at the edge since I drove out of IGI airport..!”

The secret of fine dining …

I remember asking for crunchy fried rice in a Chinese restaurant and being served a bowl of onion sautéed puffed rice, for a ridiculously high price.

Carl Sagan’s Contact: A terrestrial tale

Published on April 15, 2008

The tryst between faith, belief, empirical research and scientific enquiry has remained encrusted in our psyche and our socio-political fabric since time immemorial. While the characters debate on the existence of God and scientific practicality, the author has summarized the entire human quest in one word – Immortality.

King and Queen of a Houseboat

Published on April 13, 2008

22 hrs, three men, a couple on a houseboat in the Alleppey backwaters – the highlight of our Kerala trip!
When hubby and I decided that we will have our first holiday as a couple touring Coastal Kerala, I instantly zeroed upon a houseboat stay. And the decision was worthwhile because we were the regal occupants [...]

Of iron ore and days of yore

Published on April 9, 2008

The difference is evident even from the skies – New Delhi is a concrete jungle; Cochin (rather the whole of Kerala) is verdant intercepted only by meandering water bodies or the infinite sea-shore. The proximity to the sea makes this area pretty humid and this was the only adjustment issue we had during our trip [...]

Touched by the high tide and kissed by the sunset

Published on April 8, 2008

Three evenings – three different beaches in Coastal Kerala – each with a different personality!
From the pristine Alleppey beach, to the recreational Shanghamangam beach and finally to the commercialized Kovalam beach; each evening bestowed hubby and me with a feeling of awe at nature’s beauty and magnitude.
Alleppey is more famous for its backwaters, houseboats and [...]

Fasting (and feasting)

Published on April 7, 2008

The hubby is fasting for navratra. He has one full meal in twenty-four hours, intercepted with fruit, tea and juice. On Sunday, the first day of the fast, I planned for his lunch and had a scrumptious meal ready. The only thing missing in the menu was a home-made drink or shake to make it [...]

Thunder-storm vs. thunder-snore

Published on April 6, 2008

02:20 hrs: Boisterous thunder and impending showers wake me up. The day’s laundry is still hanging out in the balcony. I must retrieve the clothes and get them into the house before the downpour starts.
02:22 hrs: I am still in bed, procrastinating and hoping hubby will get up and bring the laundry into the house. [...]

In God’s Own Country: Itinerary and Insights

Published on April 5, 2008

Hubby and I were on a much-needed, much-awaited 6-day leisure trip to what the “Incredible India” advertisement portrays as the “Beaches and Backwaters” in “God’s Own Country”. There is much to write about our trip to Coastal Kerala but to do justice to what I saw, experienced and wish to share, I intend to distribute [...]

Mastering “omelette du fromage”

Published on April 2, 2008

The simplest of dish becomes significant when it comes to your rescue at a could-have-turned-embarrassing hour. And when the dish is also appreciated by the people to whom it is served, you can give yourself a pat on your back.
Cheese and eggs have always been my favorites to cook up a quick and tasty meal. [...]
