Hey, Chakrata is supposedly the place where LTTE supremo Prabhakaran was trained. And yes it is a hush hush town. you have all those timed check posts. And I believe one of the best hotels is the Snow View. I had the Chakrata trip planned for January 2006 but then life went for a toss. And have not had a vacation since.

Sounds like you had a fun trip.Cool...

Thats more like it you gals are always welcome, two of the best mates I've ever had! :)

Btw, I wrote travelogue of Kalsi & Lansdowne trips! :)

The Landsdowne trip was significant for two reasons: 1. It triggered a heartbreak for someone (you know whom I mean 2. It brought two people together (Hits and Shobs); and then ofcourse there were the two jokers in pack - Me sloshed out and madly angry with the world, and Sanju, again in drunken stupor and ready to jump over the fire ;-) LOL, I bet Landsdowne article will be a good read

Yeah and don't forget the caring people like me who have been always there to take care of things! ;)

Snigs, did you come on the Kalsi Chakrata trip? Hmm, gotta check the photos! ;) Btw, you guys didn't thank me at all, after all I was the mastermind behind this trip having suggested the place when all others weren't so keen on the idea, especially Ramit who was afraid that we'll get stuck in the hills in rain! ;) :D

@Snigs: I cant tell you how I miss those days of carefree adventure. Time stood still for us and then suddenly flew past taking us far from each another in a quick stride :-|

Chakrata is a beautiful untouched place (thanks to the army). I went there during end of last year and throughly enjoyed the pristine surroundings. It typically snows there in January, and has a couple of decent hotels in case one is looking for a family outing.

But if one likes more offbeat kind of places, they can head towards nearby Deoban (16 Kms), and Kanasar (26 Kms). One of my friend stayed overnight with his group in the Kanasar rest house where there is no electricity, and they had to cook food on bonfire.

Other nearby places i have read on the net are Budher and Mori.

I guess now with a better vehicle for this terrain at my command i might head out again on this route.

Thanks for bringing back some good memories. :-)

p.s. There is a Great Indian Outdoors camp near Chakrata (~40Kms), it is on top of a hill and again an awesome place.

The post was quite informative and beautifully written, I didn't know all those intricate details about Chakrata. Some web links from your research and some links on the vista would help the readers.
