As our office group had lunch together, we jumped from one topic of discussion to another, and soon we were talking about the favourite topic of all Indians – the politics and the poverty in India. While we all voiced our concerns, and shared real life incidents of how we had seen poverty and disease afflict our society, a colleague made an interesting observation.
To quote – “In our country, the rivers are holy, the mountains are venerated, plants are worshipped, animals are sacred, land is precious, stone idols and televised mythological serials and their actors recieve awed devotion, and even machines and tools are sanctified; its only the human being who is classified as untouchable!”
India sure is a strange country, where human life has little value.
