The Boiling Frog Syndrome

Published on November 26, 2008

The American frog, lay in a tub of water, and was slowly burnt alive, because the temperature steadily increased over a period of time. The Indian frog, apparently, had the fright of a lifetime by being ducked into a tub of steaming water, but could jump out just in time to save its skin.

One year of the “weld-lock”

Published on November 21, 2008

Sharing your time and space with someone is not an easy job, and after the first cup of coffee, you are supposed to take on the kitchen chores, single-handedly. Unless, you finally become hard-hearted enough to break the gender-mould and get the hubby to learn some basic chores. The first year is the best time when you can play on the newfound love, and find ways and means to train him to be handy around the kitchen, instead of reviving his romance with the television, after you both have had a long and hard day at work. Yes, you need to find little ways out of that lethargy, and also to make the hubby more useful, within the first year, else it may be too late to make him change! Remember, the love will cool down, the romance fizzle, but the chores that he learns in the first year will remain lifelong.

Prayer in the time of recession

I accept with a gourmet’s delight the weird menu that is served day in and day out in my office cafetaria, even if it means chewing on the little stone in my rice, or having the lentil salad that reeks, or the custard that is yellow colored water.

The mesmerizing splendor of Orccha, Madhya Pradesh

Published on November 6, 2008

We saw an indigenous fish net made of twigs and branches, caught amazing glimpses of the Jahangir fort, and the Cenotaphs of the Queen and her maids, and of course missed our cameras because we realized that the middle of the river gave the most amazing panoramic views of the Chattris. The trip was made enjoyable by the historical narration of our guide. Rafting in Betwa is not a regular feature and is seasonal and totally dependent on the volume of water in the river. If you want to take a raft tour of the river, and then ensure that you make the enquiries beforehand, else you may be disappointed.

Young Indians are also craving for change, and the partisan party politics of India doesn’t hold any charm! Yes, as Americans welcome change, even in India, as we usher in another season of Parliamentary elections, it will soon be time to change!

A spiritual perspective in support of Euthanasia

Published on November 4, 2008

Indeed, one gets the impression that thousands of people lie suffering in hospitals, living from crisis to crisis, not because the law is against alternatives but because their world view provides no space for non-physical co-existence and a meaningful evolution of the individual soul through the accumulation of experience in many lives.

A predictable sneak-peak into the world of Fashion

Published on November 1, 2008

The treatment of the movie is quite similar to Page 3, with the characters being introduced to the audience at a fashion show – remember the Page 3 party when the characters were introduced. So much so that some of the incidents are also common – clandestine affairs with married men, strong women who get thrown out for being too bold and outspoken, the hidden lives of socialite, and marriages of convenience. True to the scale of the movie, there are many characters in the movie, so much so that once in a while one loses track.
