A spiritual perspective in support of Euthanasia

Published on November 4, 2008

Indeed, one gets the impression that thousands of people lie suffering in hospitals, living from crisis to crisis, not because the law is against alternatives but because their world view provides no space for non-physical co-existence and a meaningful evolution of the individual soul through the accumulation of experience in many lives.

Soothsayer or Swindler: the mystery of Naadi Shastra

Published on October 17, 2008

We waited patiently for an updated blog post from him, and after I reminded him that we were waiting for the final story, he sent a very short narration of what actually ensued on his last visit to the Naadi Shastri in Vasant Kunj. Here’s a reproduction of his note

There were four stacks of palm leaves, each stack with about 30 leaves sandwiched between two thin slabs of rosewood and all bound together with a soiled twine that indicated that the bundles had been in constant use.

God, rediscovered

Published on September 18, 2008

God, as we human beings know and as we revere, is a misnomer. There is no God. There is no God, as we try to idolize in our images of Christ, Krishna and the Buddha. There is a God, there is a Christ, Krishna and the Buddha. Each human being who cherishes and lives the [...]

The solar system’s longest lasting storm is Jupiter’s Great Red Spot — raging on and off for 340 years, since Cassini first discovered it in 1665, shortly after Hans Lippershey invented the telescope in 1608. The high-pressure storm gyrates (in the opposite direction from low-pressure Earth hurricanes) due to Coriolis effects (just as on Earth) making a complete rotation every 6 days (2.5 times faster than storms rotate on Earth).

“Daddy, teach me how to pray!”

So I decided to enjoy the celebration and here the message. I shifted focus to the actual content of the legends and songs that the lead singer of the troupe were rendering. I ignored the well-known lyrics of the movie song that played in my ears; I started following the words and the movements of the troupe. But alas! My absurd mind failed to appreciate their efforts.

The tryst between faith, belief, empirical research and scientific enquiry has remained encrusted in our psyche and our socio-political fabric since time immemorial. While the characters debate on the existence of God and scientific practicality, the author has summarized the entire human quest in one word – Immortality.

Soul Voyage

I am reading Astral Travel for Beginners by Richard Webster.  (You can read some scanned chapters from the book at: http://books.google.co.in) I have always been drawn towards esoteric subjects and crave for knowing about the off-beat. I saw a copy of the book at the local bookseller, and purchased it because of the torn cover for peanuts.

Let’s talk about …

That is what we – friend and one-time co-traveler, known by the pseudonym, theemptyhead, and me, talked (rather chatted) about. Here is a chat transcript of a very interesting chat, reproduced with due permissions from theemptyhead. Of course, [...]
